This is a can of worms all unto itself. Bottom line is, no you don't need social networks but they are extremely useful and to try and address all the reasons why would be tiresome. Suffice to say that you are probably here because you need help with all of this and that is what we are here to do for you. Not to worry, in time and if needed, you will have this and many other technologies explained in detail to you. For now, let us worry about the technology.
